The Gathering 2009 website contains a comprehensive FAQs page. Here we just list those which are specific to Ramsay clan members. Q: What should I wear during the Clan Gathering? A: Although the event is broadly informal, it is expected that as many male Ramsay clan members as possible will wear a Ramsay tartan 'day kilt' outfit or trews – for example: kilt, green woollen socks ('hose'), garter flashes, sgian dubh, day sporran (typically brown leather), shirt and (optionally) tie, grey or green tweed day jacket (doublet) or jersey; optional hat would be a bonnet, either Balmoral or Glengarry style. For ladies, trowsers or skirts of tartan or other material are fine, possibly with a tartan waistcoat, hat, scarf or shawl. The main thing is that everyone should wear some Ramsay tartan! The weather is unpredictable, so it is recommended that umbrellas and/or waterproof clothing are brought too. For those taking part in the Clan Parade march up the cobbled Royal Mile, a stout pair of shoes is important. See, too, the big section about what to wear on The Gathering 2009 website's FAQs page Q: What is the Dress Code for the Clan Ramsay Reception? A: Because it will be difficult for everyone to change in time for the bus leaving Holyrood at 18:30 this, too, will be informal, i.e. wear the same as you have been during the day. Q: We have young children. Will they be able to attend the various events? A: The Gathering is a family occasion and all well-behaved children are very much welcome, including to the Ramsay Clan Reception at Dalhousie Castle. However, the Clan Parade and Pageant are likely to be quite tiring - the Royal Mile is just that (1.6km) and it is uphill over cobbled street, so this is not recommended for young children. |
